When the System Breaks Down, We Break Through

By Christine Smith, Chief Investigations Officer

Every day, women walk into abortion facilities expecting healthcare, but many leave harmed, ignored, and silenced. Even worse, the very government agencies meant to protect them are often the ones burying the harm.

At the Center for Client Safety, we’ve uncovered case after case of patient injuries, medical negligence, and clear violations of the law. But all too often, state officials refuse to act. Medical boards dismiss legitimate complaints. Licensing agencies look the other way. In one of our most critical investigations today, even law enforcement has become uncooperative in the face of blatant illegal activity.

We are currently facing major pushback in two critical investigations. Because these are active investigations, we cannot share many specifics, but we can tell you:

  • One facility has been illegally prescribing drugs.

  • Another facility has likely been performing illegal abortions.

  • One has grossly violated HIPAA regulations.

  • Another has been operating without a valid business license.

Despite the severity of these violations, multiple agencies are dragging their feet, or outright refusing to act. But we are not giving up! We are pursuing every available avenue to ensure women and children are protected and the law is enforced.

These are some of the toughest obstacles we’ve ever faced. But we’re not backing down.

Unlike other organizations, we don’t stop at simply exposing wrongdoing, we fight until lawbreakers are held accountable. Our team is known nationwide for delivering precise, well-documented, and legally sound investigations that agencies can’t ignore. That’s why we’re often the only pro-life organization invited into the room with decision-makers.

Getting there isn’t easy. Our work means navigating a maze of bureaucratic resistance: layers of departments, jurisdictions, and endless red tape. Within a single health department, there might be five different offices, each with its own authority and process. Knowing who can act, and how to compel them to do so, isn’t guesswork. It’s strategy and intense legal research, showing agencies precisely how the law gives them the authority to hold violators accountable so they can’t look away any longer.

It’s not just that we persist, it’s how we do it. Every step of our process is designed to be legally sound, professionally executed, and impossible to dismiss. Because of this, we’ve earned credibility where others have been shut out. In fact, some agency leaders now come to us for help in understanding the complex data needed to hold the abortion industry accountable.

Our many victories prove how far we’ve come and how high the stakes are. Many cases have taken years, not because of delay, but because we’ve done the work right. We’ve traced accountability to the right desks, pursued action through the proper legal channels, and stood firm when officials tried to shut us out. In some instances, facilities have remained closed for up to weeks at a time and many different points throughout the course of an investigation, even before the full victory is achieved, allowing for lives to be saved.

We are on the brink of major breakthroughs. We’ve gone directly to the authorities who can act and exposed glaring accountability gaps they can no longer ignore. This success is built on relentless effort, not one-time press releases or photo ops. It requires attention to every detail, precise documentation, and unwavering resolve.

And when we hit a wall? We don’t quit, we reroute. A bureaucratic roadblock is never the end. It’s a detour, and we follow it until justice is done.

Our mission isn’t political. It’s personal. We fight for every woman harmed without recourse. For every whistleblower dismissed. For every preborn child who should still be alive.

The system is broken, but we are not. We won’t stop until women and children are truly protected.
